The Lackawanna County Workforce Investment Board has authorized a maximum of $8,000 for every individual requesting funding for training who meets the eligibility within a particular funding stream - economically disadvantaged adult client; dislocated worker; and/or youth (ages 14 through 21, inclusive). These funds may be used to pursue training in a variety of fields that are approved on a Statewide Training Provider List (available on the pacareerlink web link). The maximum of $8,000 must be utilized within a 24-month period from the award of training and must be combined with any/all PELL/PHEAA and/or other applicable training/educational grant. Awards are approved by the WIA Operational Director following a thorough eligibility determination and request process.
The Lackawanna County Workforce Investment Board is also able to assist local employers and businesses with advanced training opportunities for their incumbent worker population through the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Industry Partnership/Worker Training Grants within high-priority, targeted industry clusters. Local employers/businesses are encouraged to contact the WIB office for more details and visit the Industry Partnerships and Worker Training Grants section of this website to view in-depth descriptions of previous awards and initiatives.
